ESL (English As A Second Language)
Half Hour Single Cam, Dramedy
Logline: Matias, the son of Mexican immigrants, faces an identity crisis when he is unexpectedly moved from Honors English to ESL in school, torn between cultures and burdened by his family’s expectations. At the same time, his older sister Araceli struggles to pursue the American Dream while navigating the realities of adulthood as a DACA recipient.
The pilot is fundamentally about the gap between the life first-gen kids are told to want and the one that's actually available to them, and the community they find when they stop fighting that gap. ESL the class becomes a metaphor: not remedial, not a punishment, but a room full of kids the system underestimated.
